TEK DigiTel and Teltone Partner to
Deliver Enhanced Corporate Remote-Voice Solutions
Bringing standards based VoIP and
enhanced CTI to Legacy PBX systems
GERMANTOWN, MD - November 23, 1999 TEK DigiTel Corp. (OTC BB: TEKI) and Teltone Corporation (OTC BB: TTNC), a leading provider of software-based telecommuting solutions, have agreed to work together to develop VoIP (Voice over IP) solutions for the corporate market. This collaboration will focus on enabling geographically distributed call center agents and teleworkers to utilize the full potential of their existing Lucent, Siemens and/or Nortel PBX (Private Branch Exchange) technology across their company's corporate Intranet.
The VoIP technology provides tremendous flexibility for corporations to simplify voice communications with geographically dispersed workers. "While the interest in the technology is strong, in reality, many of today's newer VoIP based PBXs lack the sophistication of more mature proprietary solutions from Lucent, Siemens and Nortel." says Rocco DiCarlo, TEK DigiTel's President. "In addition to concerns about robustness, the corporate telecommunications manager is looking for solutions which help extend their existing legacy PBX investment rather than replacing it. By combining Teltone's OfficeLink®2000 solution with our V-Server iGate technology any remote "IP-connected" worker can be provided with full PBX access regardless of where they are located."
With this partnership, Telecommunication Managers will be able to provision their remote workers with a V-Server iGate, a PC running Teltone's OfficeLink 2000 client and a low cost analog phone. Using a connection to the corporate IP Intranet, the worker can access the PBX with all the functionality of a proprietary digital phone, but with the phone's control and display provided in a pop-up window on their PC. . The Teltone software performs all the control/status functions of the PBX vendor's expensive standalone proprietary phoneset allowing the worker to use facilities like Speed Dialing, Call Transfer, Call Forward, Voice Mail Indicator/Access, Interactive Voice Response (IVR), Automatic Call Distributor (ACD) Agent Status, Queue Information, Caller ID, Caller Name, etc.
"Some vendors have approached the problem of providing full remote keyset access by just extending the PBX vendors proprietary digital phone interface across a VoIP link." says Teltone VP Sales & Marketing, Mark Blazek "This does nothing to reduce the cost of proprietary keysets and does not exploit the true potential for CTI (Computer Telephony Integration) applications. Rather than placing an "intelligent phone" beside the worker's "intelligent" computer, the TEK/Teltone solution improves worker productivity by allowing them to focus on one screen for both phone control and database lookup."
TEK DigiTel and Teltone have initiated certification testing to assist their partners in deploying the application. In addition they are also exploring joint product development options over the long term to further reduce the cost of deployment.
TEK DigiTel’s equipment and supplemental services are designed to make IP telephony less expensive and complex for providers to provision and for users to adopt. TEK’s V-Server gateway/routers are user-installable and inexpensive enough for carriers to bundle with voice, data and Internet access services.
