TEK DigiTel Adds Marketing Talent To Secure Leadership In SOHO Communications

GERMANTOWN, Md.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 13, 1999--In conjunction with introducing its advanced Internet communications platform for small and home office businesses, start-up TEK DigiTel Corp. (OTC BB: TEKI) is announcing the addition of industry veteran James Sturgess to its executive management team as Director of Marketing. During more than fifteen years in the communications industry, Mr. Sturgess has held senior management positions in marketing, product development and manufacturing for some of the largest players in the networking and Internet industries. His focus at TEK DigiTel will be in securing a leadership role among SOHO consumers and channel partners serving them.

Vision Backed by Expertise

``TEK DigiTel sought James Sturgess because he is a powerful and proven asset in market development in the packet networking and voice-over-packet arenas,'' says Rocco DiCarlo, President, TEK DigiTel. ``James played a key role in hugely successful launches for both 3Com and Motorola, and his first-hand experience in educating channels and partners is a perfect fit for us.''

Sturgess' day-to-day responsibilities will include working with DiCarlo and Vice President of Sales John DiPangrazio to align the Company's sales and marketing strategies with market demand. TEK DigiTel's flagship VOICEServer platform brings together the components of an affordable, advanced business communications onto a single, low-cost device ideal for small offices and businesses. suing multiple channels.

``What attracted me to TEK DigiTel, aside from a great product aimed at a hot market, was the challenge of bringing together a huge unpenetrated market of consumers, with a group of service providers that wish to better integrate telephony with IP functions,'' Sturgess says. ``We are creating a product that provides the `missing link' needed to bring next-gen services to SOHO consumers. It's also the perfect customer premise counterpart to a carrier-class packetized voice gateway. Our challenge will be to secure key strategic relationships in each potential channel as quickly as possible.''

Prior to joining TEK DigiTel, Sturgess most recently served as Business Development Manager for 3Com Corp, where he led the successful positioning and global launch of 3Com's enterprise voice over packet product lines. His career with 3Com included various other senior marketing positions that contributed to 3Com's growth in the enterprise WAN market. For the decade prior to joining 3Com, Sturgess held related positions at Motorola Canada, Inc., including Senior Marketing Manager for the Network Systems Division, where he played a major role in helping the Company gain dominant market share with their enterprise packet products.

In his new role, Mr. Sturgess draws on nearly two decades diverse telecommunications industry experience that also includes tenure with Nortel Network's R&D labs, with Bell Canada, the country's largest public carrier, and the Canadian cable television industry.
