TEK DigiTel Extends Advanced IP Communications Platform to SOHO Market Providers

Strategic Partners Piloting Small Office Solution For Voice, Data, Internet

LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 13, 1999-- In conjunction with the Voice On the Net (VON) event here this week, TEK DigiTel Corp. (OTC BB:TEKI - news) is announcing initial availability of its VOICEServer solutions for small office advanced communication systems for small office locations.

The V-Server iGATE, a Voice-over-IP (VoIP) enabled router platform is being made available to prospective partners and customers including Internet Telephony Service Providers (ITSPs), resellers and OEMs looking for a high-quality customer premise solution for advanced voice, data and Internet communications.

``TEK continues to advance the entire VOICEServer product family for August release,'' says TEK DigiTel President Rocco DiCarlo. ``In the mean time, we're extending iGATE as an early release to partners so that the crucial work of development and interoperability testing can begin now.'' Development design emphasizes ease-of-use mechanisms, low-cost and user features suited to ignite broader acceptance of advanced voice-over-packet (VOP) communications in the exploding small office/home office (SOHO) market. The ultimate VOICEServer platform will seamlessly integrate everything a small office needs to make advanced communications simple: a PBX switchboard for feature-rich voice/fax needs, a built-in WAN router for high-speed Internet connectivity, an IP telephony gateway for low-cost service options and more.

Pilot Programs Invited

Available in May, TEK DigiTel's V-Server iGATE represents a powerful tool for SOHO providers to use in refining voice quality, developing features and testing for interoperability and standards compliance. Equipped as a WAN router with Ethernet port, serial port, ISDN BRI, two VoIP analog ports for voice/fax, and H.323 support for interoperation with Gatekeepers, Gateways and Microsoft NetMeeting, the product intros at a list price of $1299.

V-Server iGATE is designed to allow Internet telephony service providers (ITSP) to leapfrog competitors offering PC-to-Phone service or two-step dialing access to VoIP gateways. These methods can be cumbersome for subscribers, and detract from service quality. TEK is committed to delivering customer premise solutions that work with existing infrastructure equipment to provide the `missing link' ITSP's need to enable high-quality next-generation services and reduce customer churn.

``TEK has successfully tested H.323 interoperability with gatekeepers from Cisco, VocalTec and Radvision,'' DiCarlo says. ``We've also tested V-Server with NetMeeting and various other gateways and feel confident that the H.323 stack we've implemented is solid and widely interoperable.''

Market Heading For SOHO

Spearheaded by industry veteran Rocco DiCarlo, a former product visionary of highly successful Motorola product lines, TEK is bringing advanced communications to the small office and small business (SOHO) market using the Internet, traditional voice and data systems and emerging IP Telephony services. Citing estimates that the SOHO market has already reached a size of $37 billion in North America, DiCarlo explains TEK's strategy for securing leadership among access platform suppliers.

``Right now, the SOHO market for advanced IP communications remains underserved and basically ignored by traditional equipment manufacturers who are busy targeting service providers and larger enterprises,'' DiCarlo explains. ``TEK sees opportunity in being the first to bring a truly viable solution to this segment. We're focusing heavily on making VOICEServer extremely simple to configure and maintain so that ISPs can resell it to customers without having to install or service it.''

V-Server Leverages Golden Gateway Software From Telogy Networks

TEK's iGATE product affords prospective partners the opportunity to test a very pure implementation of Telogy Network's highly acclaimed Golden Gateway Software, making it an ideal platform for customer trials and pilot sites, especially manufacturers and next-generation service partners seeking to monitor customer response to potential new applications. TEK DigiTel can be seen in the Telogy booth, number 506, at the VON event.

``TEK DigiTel is implementing a very pure port of Telogy's Golden Gateway software, which fully optimizes Telogy's product development road map'' commented Joseph A. Crupi, President and CEO, Telogy Networks. ``TEK DigiTel's innovative pilot program will allow ISPs and other service providers to easily trial the latest advances in IP telephony. It is innovative programs such as this one that are contributing to the growth of the VoIP industry.``
